The HeadMinder Solution

HeadMinder offers objective, disease-specific, diagnostic indicators for use across a broad range of medical settings and disciplines.

Cognitive Testing
Each HeadMinder test consists of a set of computerized subtests that require simple patient responses on a standard keyboard and measure aspects of cognition typically associated with a brain dysfunction, such as reaction time, concentration and working memory, information processing speed and accuracy, and short-term and long-term memory. Tests may also include questionnaires tailored for each presenting problem.

By combining the subtest modules in specific arrangements, HeadMinder can create customized test batteries to meet pharmaceutical or other research needs and develop new protocols to test for specific central nervous system conditions.

Clinical Assessment of Change
HeadMinder scientists have implemented the only existing commercial system that uses advanced statistical models for measuring and monitoring change in cognitive functions. Each individual's initial test results are used as a baseline for comparison to future tests. The baseline allows the system to create a unique longitudinal profile: the individual is compared to himself or herself over time, thereby increasing the accuracy of the test. (Most traditional assessment measures compare individuals to a group average.)

Reliability and Validity
Each test has documented reliability and has been shown to be useful with patients suffering from medical or mental illness. Specialized statistics control for practice effects and reduce other sources of error. Our tests employ multiple alternate forms, and our server keeps track of which forms have already been administered. Initial cross-cultural validation data indicate that the majority of our subtests can be used with non-English-speaking populations by supplying test instructions in a test-taker's native language.

Simple Administration
HeadMinder tests can be administered from any Internet-connected computer, and companion tests are available for use on handheld computers. Results are available instantly and can be accessed by any authorized administrator with a secure password. There is no software to install and no specialized hardware to purchase. Sophisticated data management and customer support functions are provided.

Records Management
Online test records are easily accessed for telemedicine consultation and can be maintained to monitor progress, even when an individual moves between settings or changes providers.

HeadMinder's illness- and injury-specific protocols integrate findings from a number of resources into comprehensive online reports. These may include results of objective cognitive tests, mental status exams, self-report questionnaires, activities of daily living, observations of the clinician, or the impressions of a caregiver.

Only authorized professionals may view records and reports, maintaining confidentiality and the "patient-provider" relationship. All data collection is consistent with regulatory guidelines pertaining to the conduct of drug trials and the privacy of medical records.
