Members of our CRI Scientific Advisory Board are recognized experts in their specialty areas.
Their credentials include board certification in neurosurgery, neurology, neuropsychology, and
certified athletic training. They have extensive experience treating professional, college, and
high-school athletes and share a commitment to responsible management of sports-related concussions.
Jon Almquist, ATC
Mr. Almquist is a board-certified athletic trainer and specialist
for the Fairfax County Public Schools Athletic Training Program
in Fairfax, VA, where he oversees 24 high schools and nearly 50
athletic trainers. In that program, he established an Injury Treatment
Tracking System that is compatible with university-level research
and is nationally recognized as a model for the data collection
of injuries for the high-school athlete. An active member of the
National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), he serves as
chair of the Secondary School Athletic Trainers Committee,
as a member of the Pronouncements Committee, and as a representative
to the NATA Inter-Association Task Force for Appropriate Care of
the Spine.
Robert C. Cantu, M.D., FACS, FACSM
Dr. Cantu is a board-certified neurosurgeon with a specialty
in sports medicine. Currently, he is chief of neurosurgery and director
of sports medicine at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, and medical
director of the National Center for Catastrophic Sports Injury Research,
an ongoing registry for data collection and analysis of spine and
head injuries. He has authored more than 200 scientific publications,
including 17 books on neurology and sports medicine, in addition
to numerous book chapters, peer-reviewed papers, and educational
videos. Dr. Cantu is an associate editor of Medicine and Science
in Sports and Exercise and Exercise and Sports Science Reviews.
He has served as treasurer and president of the American College
of Sports Medicine.
James D. Gossett, ATC
Mr. Gossett is a board-certified athletic trainer. Currently, he
is head athletic trainer and an associate in physical education at
Columbia University in New York City. A member of the accreditation
committee of the New York State Athletic Trainers' Association, Mr.
Gossett is a recipient of that associations Thomas J. Sheehan Sr.
Award for outstanding service to the profession of athletic training.
He has served as past-president of the Eastern Athletic Trainers'
Association and is a member of the American College of Sports Medicine.
Mr. Gossett has held athletic training positions at numerous
international sporting events, including the World University Summer
Games, the U.S. Olympic Festival, and the Pan American Games.
Barry D. Jordan, M.D., M.P.H.
Dr. Jordan is a board-certified neurologist and psychiatrist
with a specialty in sports medicine. Educated at Harvard and Columbia,
he is currently director of the Brain Injury Program at Burke Rehabilitation
Hospital in White Plains, NY, and a neurological consultant to the
New York State Athletic Commission. The author of three texts, including
Sports Neurology, more than 30 articles, 30 book chapters,
and 60 presentations, Dr. Jordan has held academic positions at
Cornell University Medical College, Charles R. Drew University,
and the UCLA School of Medicine. Dr. Jordan has presided as team
physician at numerous international events for the U.S Amateur Boxing
Team and as the chief physician at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team Boxing
Trials.
Kenneth C. Kutner, Ph.D., ABPP
Dr. Kutner is a board-certified neuropsychologist and a co-author
of the Concussion Resolution Index. He completed training at Chicago
Medical School and subsequently joined the faculty of UMDNJ/New
Jersey Medical School in the Department of Psychiatry. Currently,
he is an assistant professor in the Department of Neurology and
Neuroscience at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University.
He is co-author of "The Neuropsychology of Sports-Related Head
Injury," published by The Clinical Neuropsychologist.
Dr. Kutner has been the team neuropsychologist for the New York
Giants since 1995. He maintains an independent practice in New Jersey,
where his specialties include neuropsychological evaluation, sports
neuropsychology, cognitive retraining, and crisis debriefing.
Michael McCrea, Ph.D.
Dr. McCrea is the lead author of the Standardized Assessment of Concussion
(SAC). Currently, he is the head of Neuropsychology Service at Waukesha
Memorial Hospital and is on the faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin
in the Department of Neurology. He has served as a neuropsychological
consultant to the Chicago Bears and Chicago Blackhawks. The recipient of
more than a dozen grants, Dr. McCrea’s research has focused on
investigations into injury assessment, return to play, and outcome following
concussion for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the
National Football League (NFL) Charities. He frequently lectures on sports
concussion and has authored numerous book chapters and other publications.
Robert Voy, M.D.
Dr. Voy is a sports medicine specialist with more than 30 years
experience in the field. Currently, he serves as deputy chairman
of the International Boxing Association Medical Commission, as a
member of the International Olympic Committee Medical Commission
on Boxing, as a ringside physician for the Nevada State Athletic
Commission, and as a team physician for the Las Vegas Thunder hockey
team. He previously served as the Chief Medical Officer of the U.S.
Olympic Committee and the Director of Sports Medicine and Science
at the U.S. Olympic Training Center. Dr. Voy is the author of
Drugs, Sport, and Politics and of more than 30 articles and
80 presentations on sports medicine topics.

David M. Erlanger, Ph.D.
Dr. Erlanger received his doctorate in psychology from Columbia
University and completed training in clinical neuropsychology at
the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and the Weill Medical College
of Cornell University. He is on the faculties of the Albert Einstein
College of Medicine/Montefiore Hospital and Columbia University/Teachers
College and serves as a consultant in research methods and assessment
to the New York State Psychiatric Institute of Columbia-Presbyterian
Medical Center.
Daniel J. Feldman, Ph.D.
Dr. Feldman completed training in neuropsychology at the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. Clinically, he has worked primarily doing neuropsychological assessment of adults in outpatient and medical-legal settings. He has published and continues to study in the areas of neuropsychology, personality research, psychometrics, and advanced statistical techniques for the behavioral sciences. At present, he leads pharmaceutical market research in oncology.
